Henrique Band

“I’m the great-grandson of a Russian man, grandson of a Belgian Jazz lover who married a woman from Pará, daughter of Hindi parents, which met in Rio de Janeiro during carnival.

From the other side of the family, I’m the great-great- grandson of a French-Basque and grandson of an Uruguaian man who, wandering around, got to arrive in Santana do Livramento in 1903, which enabled, later on, the meeting of both my Brazilian parents . Practically all the world’s music has mingled into my blood.

I was brought up in a home where we listened to all kinds of music. My grandfather introduced me to jazz. Through him I achieved the connection between these varied musical segments that inspired me to compose, arrange and express myself when, I, later on, became a musician.”

1995

FIRST RECORDING: Special participation in Dente de Ouro – Blues Etílicos’ CD

1996 - 1998

Founded the Band Rio Salsa with the percussionist and band leader Léo Leobons, where he worked as musical director for three years.

Through Roberto Menescal’s Recording Company he did his first musical direction work, producing the Rio Salsa CD, together with the percussionist Léo Leobons. As an arranger, he signed 12 of the 14 arrangements of the CD, which had one of its tracks, Mezcla (Leo Leobons), inserted in the sound track of the TV Globo soapopera Salsa e Merengue

Participated in Free Jazz Festival (96) with Paulinho Trompete and his Band.

Participated in Free Jazz Festival (98) with Vittor Santos Orchestra.

1999 - 2001

Natal Bradesco Seguros. Participated in the recording of the CD with Michel Legrand and Orchestra.

Participated in the recording of Titan’s CD – “Nós não vamos pagar nada”- and its marketing tour

Put together the small great orchestra 11 cabeças ( with Marcelo Martins, Bidinho, Levi Chaves, Gilmar Ferreira, Eliézer Rodrigues, Delia Fischer, Bruno Migliari, Bernardo Bosisio, Cesar Brunet and Cassio Cunha.) working as its musical director for 5 years

2002-2004

Directed and produced with the bass player Bruno Migliari, the Small Great Orchestra 11 Cabeças’ CD with participations of Frejat, Mingo Araujo and Ivan Conti (Mamão).

11 Cabeças Orchestra Show with Leila Pinheiro as a special guest at Sesc, Vila Mariana, SP

Participated in Rock in Rio 3 – Rio de Janeiro with The Silvas (Liminha, João Barone,Dé, Marcelo D2 and Branco Mello)

Participated in the Series of New Composers show RJ with UFRJazz Ensemble (Conductor- José Rua)

Five–month-season of 11 Cabeças Orchestra at Rio Scenarium – RJ with special participations of Moska, João Sabiá and Vital Silva.

Participated in MPB Orchestra in the show “100 anos de Frevo” led by Wagner Tiso with Antonio Nóbrega and Spok.
